Hello from the Alamo!

I'm in San Antonio, Texas, attending a much-needed CME conference and Keith's at home holding down the fort with Em. It's hot down here and quite windy...is it always this windy in Texas? It's my first time in the state, so it's all new to me. I've wandered around the Riverwalk, strolled through HemisFair park that was built for the World's Fair in 1968, caught up with some old Duke PA classmates, and ate some Tex-Mex (yum!). Keith & Em have enjoyed playing outside on the water table and took a trip to the mall today. Emmy & I both are battling the sniffles, and cursing those little daycare germs.

Tomorrow, the exhibit hall opens at the conference, so I'll load up on post-it notes and pens. I go to this conference (the national PA conference) about every 3 years, and it's always fun to see old teachers/classmates, hear what's new in medicine, and just be in the same place with so many other PA colleagues. It's really cool to see the diversity of our profession, hear what other PAs are doing around the country, and knock out a big chunk of our required CME hours.

I fly home Wednesday evening, and look forward to kissing my babygirl, petting the cats, and sleeping next to my hubby again.

Goose Egg

Emmy had a little accident at daycare today and came home with her first goose egg...isn't it lovely?  Let this be a warning to you not to run with a large stuffed fish in your hands...it'll take you down every time.

H20 and other fun stuff

I got Emmy a water table today, because she cries every night when bathtime is over.  The kid loves water.  She really enjoyed splashing around tonight outside on the deck, and then would wander over to check out the flowerpots,  then come back for more splashing.  I absolutely loved the little bitty footprints she left on the deck.

Happy Birthday, Keith!

Keith turns the big 3-8 today (well, actually tomorrow, May 5).  I am surprising him for his birthday with a private kayak lesson for the two of us on Jordan Lake next month.  I heard about a great "mom & pop" shop out of Durham that does canoe and kayak lessons, trips, and rents/sells the equipment.  I checked out their website Frog Hollows Outdoors, and am arranging for our lessons when the weather warms up a bit next month.  No sense falling into the freezing cold water in May, when it will be much warmer in June, right?!  Anyway, Keith has talked about learning to kayak for the past year, so I thought I'd help make his dream a reality!  Happy Birthday, Babe...I love ya!

Snip, Snip!

Emmy got her first "real" haircut tonight.  We took her to Great Clips, not knowing how she would react...she didn't cry at all, and sat perfectly still on Daddy's lap while she got her trim.  She wasn't a huge fan of the cape, but all in all, a pretty atraumatic event.
